The Pause that Refreshes
The first weeks of July Makes for a nice pause
What's Below
The first week of July (in the Northern Hemisphere anyway) is summer, Canada Day, Independence Day (July 4th) with our highways filled with campers and RV’s. Airports full of tank top wearing hosers and hillbillies. It’s also humid, hot and I’m generally seeking out some sort of cool breeze or air conditioning. However, a lot of people love this time of year and if that is you - cheers. This time of year reminds me that I’m and September-October person with cooler weather, soups, stews, harvest, and football.
I’m noticing more and more of the podcasters I work with are taking time off in July. I used to think that a production downtime was a bad thing, but over the years I have changed my mind. As long as you maintain a decent presence on social media, you haven’t really disappeared. Still - I have no plans to take any time time off my podcast. This week I have a very excellent conversation with long time Winnipeg Radio Personality Alix Michaels. She has also worked on air in Minneapolis, Portsmouth NH, and Myrtle Beach, SC. Alix is a good-energy person with a true love for radio.

Here’s another one of my amazing podcast episodes I created for the internet. Back in 2007 I played a role in getting city hall in Winnipeg to stop calling Garbage pick day. “Garbage Day”; instead we called in “Recycle Day” in order to change the culture of waste. Listen to the show here.
Through the power of radio, we put recycling first! Don mentioned me in his book and told the story. You can get his book here.
I Went Fishing

This is a 5 pound Grilse I caught in the Restigouche River on the Quebec, New Brunswick border last week. It was the only fish of the week for me - but it only takes one catch and one picture for make the week special. While I dislike the slow pace of summer - I do like taking a swim in 63 degree water in July.
Best Thing I Listened to This Week
We are knee deep into the Black Friday / Christmas side of things.
