Lastest News: A Whole Lotta BS

I finally have an answer as to whether or not you should do video for your podcast…

“You do you.”

I also have an answer as to why do video for your podcast.

“Because it’s marketing and marketing makes you feel good.”

Twice a month, I get together with the Podcast Superfriends, Jon Gay, Catherine O’Brien, Johnny Podcasts and David Yas. One of our meetings is recorded and put into a podcast which you can find here.

Anyhow, we weren’t recording this meeting but Johnny said he was out on creating TikTok/IG Reels/ and YouTube Shorts because he has business podcasts and no one was leaving their Instagram experience to check out a long form podcast.

I have to admit that I find clips from entertainers podcasting compelling, but rarely listen to the full show on Apple Podcasts. On two occasions I expressed my dismay for shorts and video overall and had Amanda Cupido, (Lead Podcasting) tell me, “you know it’s the right thing to do”. And last Friday Catherine O’Brien, said, “this is where it is trending”.

Now I am not going to abandon video. I’ve created an expectation on the Sound Off Podcast that there will be video. I think it is not a way for people to consume the show, as much as it is to remind people to listen to the show. And with so many people (including myself) saying so many things about video and podcasting, I’d like to share this reality check from Arielle Nissenblatt (Earbuds Collective Newsletter), which is something that Catherine O’Brien has said every year since 2017...There’s so much bullshit being said.

Results vary between podcasts. The only thing you can do is speak freely and in depth about YOUR experience with your show. What works or doesn’t work for you may or may not work with another show. Speaking of Catherine and the Podcast Superfriends, we will be getting together on Tuesday to talk Spring Cleaning. Join us tomorrow with our scheduled events FaceBook or YouTube to watch the show Tuesday at 5pm ET.

STOP DOING THIS!

We can stop with “Top Reasons Why Your Podcast....” Lists, talks and presentations. As Arielle said in the clip above–they are surface level and rarely apply to your show. With that said, look for me to appear on Dave Jackson’s Podcast talking about the 12 things I learned through 400 episodes of the Sound Off Podcast. (This is allowed as I am talking about my experience and not yours).

Best Thing I Heard This Week…

On the Toronto Legends Podcast– Andrew Applebaum spoke with author Jon Finkel of a Randy Savage biography entitled, MACHO MAN: THE UNTAMED, UNBELIEVABLE LIFE OF RANDY SAVAGE is available now. Listen here.

But Wait, There’s more…Latest Show Info!

I had Ken Connors on the show & you can listen to that episode, right here!
